Dr. Dimitris Kondarides is full Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Patras, Greece and director of the Laboratory of Heterogeneous Catalysis. He received his B.S. in Chemistry (1987) from the University of Patras (UPAT), Greece, and his PhD in Chemical Engineering (1993) from the same University. From 1993 to 1994 he was a postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Tokyo. His research activities are focused in the fields of Heterogeneous Catalysis and Photocatalysis and, especially, in materials synthesis and characterization, (photo)catalyst development and evaluation and investigation of reaction kinetics and mechanisms. In recent years, his efforts are directed toward the development of novel materials and processes for the production of fuel hydrogen from renewable resources, including solar energy and biomass. His research work has been published in 94 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 2 book chapters and has been presented in a large number of international (92) and national (83) conferences. The number of citations to his work is >9530 with a Hirsch index of h=51 (Scopus).

He has participated in more than 26 research projects funded by the EU and national organizations with a total budget >2 M€ and was the coordinator of 12 projects. He has served as reviewer/evaluator or vice Chair for tens of research proposals funded by the EU (FP7, COST, H2020), International Research Organizations (ACS Petroleum Research Fund, China-Netherlands JSTP, Romanian Joint Applied Research Projects, Dutch Technology Foundation, French National Research Agency, Khalifa University of Science and Technology, etc) and national research programmes. He is also regular reviewer in more than 40 international scientific journals including Nature Materials, Nature Communications and Applied Catalysis B, Journal of Catalysis etc.

Prof. Kondarides is Executive Editor of the Chemical Engineering Journal, IF: 13.272 (2014-today), member of the Editorial Board of Applied Catalysis B, IF: 19.503 (2004-2018), member of the Board of the “Catalysis Society of Greece” (2006 – today), and member of the Association of Greek Chemists. He was also member of the organization and/or scientific committee in 15 international and 12 national conferences.
